Beam management for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications in millimeter wave 5G

Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) is expected to leverage the full potential of wireless communications. With growing adoption 5G its support for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications, beamformed vehicular communications at millimeter-wave (mmWave) bands are enable most demanding connected driving applications. Beamformed V2X links present challenge beam management in such a fast-changing scenario. This paper goes through practical limitations stack successful beamforming procedures. Two strategies proposed. Both evaluated terms power performance, recovery time channel usage. The results suggest that significant differences apply when more frequently updated, whereas little improvement seen by increasing size beamset. Also, selection proper strategy shown be important alleviate from overheads, substantial required signaling can depending on beam-tracking approach.
